I HAVE ALWAYS ENJOYED sewing and being creative with a piece of fabric. After my second child was born, I wanted a career, which would allow me to embrace my creative side, run a business and give me more time with my young family. I also wanted a contrast to my earlier career as a Food Technologist.
So, with babe in arms, I took my City & Guilds exams, in soft furnishing, upholstery and interior design and, once qualified, Farmhouse Workshops was born.
I started with soft furnishings and Interior design but quickly realised that I wanted to pass on my experience as well. I was asked to teach at the local Adult Education centre and quickly expanded to teach in three other centres. I was also a tutor on a City & Guilds correspondence course as well as for the Kent Children's University.
During this time I took my teaching certificate at Canterbury and a Clait Computer course.
I have now brought the classes 'in-house' to a studio in the grounds of a 15th Century homestead close to Tunbridge Wells in Kent.
Throughout this time, I have been ably helped by Jo Peters. She is a very experienced needlewoman and has 25 years' experience as a skilled soft furnisher and dressmaker. She will be teaching some of the classes and all the dress making classes.
